Is the stuff you get in the medicine aisle of the supermarket, rubbing alcohol, does not contain any methylated spirits. Drinking it accidentally will cause some upset stomach but nothing to worry about. Drinking even a small amount of denatured alcohol, typically sold in hardware stores in a tin container, will cause blindness as these types of denatured alcohol have methylated spirits. So yes, neither one is fit for consumption, but the one is fatal for vision and the other is not. In India, thousands die drinking hooch cut with "paint thinner", which is one of the functions of the hardware store kind of denatured alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol can also be used to clean paintbrushes in a pinch, although it is not as effective for oil paints and enamel paints as the other kind.
