Re: What makes some pens keep writing even after weeks of being left inked but unused whereas ....
I have sheaffer no nonsense pens which I collect and keep inked all the time. I don't use them much, in fact two or three years go by at times. Not only is there ink almost entirely still present in the cartridge, but as you observed the pens write instantly. To me this bespeaks a great reliable design. This is a pen that would be worth getting even at a 100 bucks a piece. The moment you get to pricey pens, most of the design elements stop getting robust. Expensive pens are temperamental and have good days and bad days, because design compromises have had to be made sacrificing function for the sake of form. That is why on any given day I would never expect anything of an expensive pen, but expect the world of a cheap pen. I guess it is a great paradox why we keep welcoming the prodigal sons that are expensive pens while we take cheap pens and their stellar performance for granted, indeed we almost seem to resent their good behavior because they both make the expensive pens as well as their owners look like plain idiots.
