Then release the button, the vacuum created after expelling the ink will withdraw the excess ink in the feed back up into the ink sac.
This will prevent an ink blot when nib is placed on paper as the feed part under the nib would have been "engourged" or flooded with excess ink from filling. The feed serves exactly as it is called...a feed to regulate the ink as needed.
This expelling a "drop of ink" actually applies to every type of filler that requires dipping nib/feed into a bottle of ink, except for eyedropper fillers.
