Re: Fake Montblancs
The pen was a gift from a good friend who only knows I use FPs, and he had no idea what he was getting. He had heard of MB, but it never occurred to him it was a fake. Like you, I prefer not to buy fakes, or even blatant rip-offs like the Chinese Lamy Safari. As someone who has had recipes, and entire menus ripped off, I know how it feels to "own" something I have created and have it used by another without permission. I don't mind if something is "fake", and the maker is upfront about it. Chris Thompson makes great reproduction Parker Duofolds, but he always does it in such a way that it can not be mistaken for a Parker, to the point, IIRC, of marking it as such somewhere on the pen. I saw a steel or aluminum Duofold he did at my first pen show and the memory is still bright and clear. Gorgeous in it's simplicity and details. That kind of "fake" I would not mind.
