Third-tier pens for beginners

It was suggested by Steve below that a good approach for beginners seeking lower price vintage pens, are third tier flat-top pens. These are often more plain and have thinner plating than the major maker's pens, but they are still decent quality, have good 14k nibs and are easy to get working. One of my favorites in that category was Diamond Point. What are some others for beginners to be watching for?
