Nibs on pens are usually Chrome plated or gold plated. Take your pick.
Some nibs are not exposed like the Parker 51. Some are partially exposed (hooded) like the Parker 45.
Filling systems range from quick and easy cartridges, to bottle filled types.
Find a style, a color, a weight, a size that is comfortable to write with. If you like it, you'll use it often. Otherwise you will probably put it at the back of a drawer after the second use.
By the way,If you drop it and bend the nib, don't panic. It can be fixed. Don't just toss the pen out. Nibs can be replaced.
In one sense, a pen is still, just a pen, but its also a lovely little storyteller. So use your pen. Send someone a story.
