: ALPHA in Ginowan Circa 1988. For
: surf history...... you could surf

: you guys remeber that)Road was
: overgrown and hard to see. Uncrowded
: Ikea, was nice back then too.

: case you dont believe...
: respect
: crash
: blue ocean
: chaos
: butt naked
: hard reef kitamae

: ginowan...forget name
: the flop house/ (read
: "slash") surf shop in
: mizugama...sakura surf
: silent surf
: quiet surf
: A39 (pronunciated as A-sack..but
: assume they do not really have
: "a sack"...as only out
: when it is knee high)
: wawa waaaa daddy gave me some
: money-surf shop....
: and many many more
: but source is the only real shop..
: watup!! guaranteed! and yes
: Billabong store has boards JS,
: Chilli, Dylans and about 5 other
: shapers plus over 50 element,
: z-boys, dogtown skate decks on the
: racks
: yeas I am advertising! out...by the
: way koko head was the first shop on
: Okinawa, gave Mago (guy pictured)
: sponsorship and he had the only NEW
: boards onthe island for locals, they
: were Aipas. Satoru was still in Jr.
: high when he saw Mago take off at

: it before.. and hunted down a board
: for himself. also outside aja, now
: a dumping ground for jacks outside
: inside aja was THE big wave spot on
: the island the old dudes say it was
: like J-bay and seeing where the
: jacks are and that the waves broke
: from there to the now current inside
: aja surf spot it is very easy to see
: that it was truley a world class

: After visiting a nice little metal
: shack called Cliffs down in Itoman
: and the recent surge in new stand up
: paddle shops, I got to
: wondering...how many surf shops are
: in Okinawa?
:
: First, I suppose we should classify
: what defines a surf shop. Wetsuit
: shops wouldn't for sure, surf school
: rental type shops are pretty close,
: the quiksilver and roxy shops in
: Naha and the Rusty store in Chattan
: wouldn't.
:
: The Source is opening a Billabong
: store but I am assuming it's only
: clothes so in order to be a
: "real" surf shop, I think
: the store should be selling some
: boards.
:
: I also got to thinking about older
: shops long since closed and some of
: the old timers who started up little
: shacks. I was hoping some of you
: guys would chime in on this since I
: have only been here four years.
:
: Also, please leave your opinions
: about specific shops to yourself --
: I was just interested in a little
: history.
