After visiting a nice little metal shack called Cliffs down in Itoman and the recent surge in new stand up paddle shops, I got to wondering...how many surf shops are in Okinawa?
First, I suppose we should classify what defines a surf shop. Wetsuit shops wouldn't for sure, surf school rental type shops are pretty close, the quiksilver and roxy shops in Naha and the Rusty store in Chattan wouldn't.
The Source is opening a Billabong store but I am assuming it's only clothes so in order to be a "real" surf shop, I think the store should be selling some boards.
I also got to thinking about older shops long since closed and some of the old timers who started up little shacks. I was hoping some of you guys would chime in on this since I have only been here four years.
Also, please leave your opinions about specific shops to yourself -- I was just interested in a little history.
