Posted by Rosanne For two weeks straight they were soaking wet and I couldn't groom them as I do every day. Some people have suggested as a temporary measure to wash the areas with listerine mouth wash and then when the rain stops spray them with X?XZER?? (don't remember the name) that they say I can purchase at our local farm supply store. What happens to horses that are free to roam the open range as they do at N-? What do you other horse people do that live in an area prone to wet conditions? Is this condition something that I should be overly concerned about? What can I do to prevent it from happening again, short of locking them up in inclement weather, which I don't want to do.

Well, after a couple months of drought the rain has returned to my part of NJ and with it rain rot. I've never had this problem before even though my two are outside all the time, all four seasons of the year. They have a run in stall, but the knuckle-heads prefer their open range - even though it is only four acres.
