11/6/05 Sunday
I had big plans of getting back out to canyon creek and ride for strays but it just never happened. Nate and Leasha hauled a couple loads of calves to the sale this weekend and picked up more hay on their way back. Lyndsey was in Albq. until Tuesday picking up her dad and step mom who flew in from Fl. Then they left again on Thursday. Don stuck around till Thursday helping with chores and spending some time working fence with me so we could turn the calves out into the water lot. The Elk had messed the fence up pretty good over the summer. We also spent a couple days going back to town a couple times taking care of some business. Mostly scrapping up every penny we had to pay the mortgage. But hurrah it’s all caught up with and we are here another year.
Once everyone was gone I spent two days shutting down the guest camp. Drain lines, shutting valves, turning off gas and appliances. It’s kinda a sad thing to do. You know summer and fun are over and no it’s time to get ready for a long winter.
The weather just continues to amaze me. It’s September again. Normally we have had snow by now, often a bunch of it. It’s warm and dry and almost no wind day after day. The nights are getting a bit cooler, down to the upper teens a few nights.
I’m not sure if I mentioned we got another dog, a Rottwieller or how ever you spell it. She’s a year old, was a friend of a friend who was moving. This dog is so sweet and oh so damn stupid it’s amazing.
Townes likes her all right, enjoys the rough and tumble play but even she looks at this new dog sometimes with an expression of “how can you be sooo dumb!” The dog came with the name Shiva, I would not have a dog named Shiva so we call her Tack. She stinks too. Dobermans, Pit bulls, and Rottwiellers all must have some stink oil in their skin. Besides that she farts all the time. Needless to say she sleeps outside. She’s our outside security and Townes will take care of anyone who makes it in the door.
