Each order may differ slightly, but here is a general overview:
First, you decide which order you'd like to join. Then get in touch with that order and tell them of your interest. You will be directed to the person in the order who handles potential vocations.
I think you would start by visiting their monastery/convent for a few weekends or weeks, depending on the order. Then if you decide to join, I think you become a postulant, and later a novice. During this time you will wear the habit of a novice, live with the nuns, praying and working with them, while taking classes in the history and spirituality of the order. After a few years you will make your profession and become a full-fledged nun.
I believe that's how it generally goes. Any sisters out there can correct me if I'm wrong.
