My response to the message of March 29 2001 is to point out that "Denzinger" 1683 and 1792 states clearly that we are obligated to believe more than just defined dogma. We are also obligated to believe those things that are handed down by the Church's ordinary teaching authority. Furthermore Pope Leo X111 declares in "Providentissimus Deus" that Scripture must be interpreted literally exept when "reason makes it untenable or necessity requires". Therefore, we must believe that Matthew 7:13-14 teaches that few are saved. Saint Thomas Aquinas pointed out in Part 1, Question 23, Article 7, Objection 3, and reply to Objection 3, (of predestination) in the "Summa Theologica" that Matthew 7:13-14 teaches that few are saved.
