I'm sorry that you look on it this way. When going to Communion, we not only receive the Body and Blood of Jesus, we are saying Amen, that yes, we believe it is truly Jesus and that we believe all the teachings of the Catholic church. If you are in another denomination, can you honestly say that?
But in most churches, you can go up and receive a blessing. So yes, that is promoting unity. You are also welcome to pray with us, even participating in the hymns and listening to the readings and the homilies.
