I haven't read the Moderator and Joseph reply yet but the following reflections came my mind. I have two very dear academic friends who on the grounds of their staunch Empiricist stands - post Hume - Popper Quine plus contemporary epistemology. Looks like in theirs and many other cases the ageof reason has brought on this issue blindness instead of enlightment. Assuming that I manage in a relatively short time to assimilate the major literature on the topic and get on the ring to snatch them away from their lack of belief in God can I really hope to find the winning arguments? Sometimes I do despair - such a huge amount of material and so much staunchness on their part - and so dear Bernadette's words come to mind. Roughly - don't have them with me now - for those who have faith no explanation is necessary, for those who don't no excplanation is sufficient. God bless and eagerly and desperately looking forward to dipping into the answers I just downloaded.
: : My response to the message of March
: 29 2001 is to point out that
: "Denzinger" 1683 and 1792
: states clearly that we are obligated
: to believe more than just defined
: dogma. We are also obligated to
: believe those things that are handed
: down by the Church's ordinary
: teaching authority. Furthermore
: Pope Leo X111 declares in
: "Providentissimus Deus"
: that Scripture must be interpreted
: literally exept when "reason
: makes it untenable or necessity
: requires". Therefore, we must
: believe that Matthew 7:13-14 teaches
: that few are saved. Saint Thomas
: Aquinas pointed out in Part 1,
: Question 23, Article 7, Objection 3,
: and reply to Objection 3, (of
: predestination) in the "Summa
: Theologica" that Matthew
: 7:13-14 teaches that few are saved.
