Posted by passerby (the dumbass) on September 19, 2002, 8:41 am ************* To the Omar person, I think that eis or whoever has a point. He was talking about storage and transfer. I think a good archive should only be mp3s for storage sake and quality. No real format or wav files, and not serving multiple sites like mcs did. That guy was talking about how 300gig is unrealistic. I think it is to when you consider other sites like Microsoft. Omar, your right about why MCS was shut down. However, this other guy has a valid point about the transfer and storage. It made MCS an easy target and wasnt a good idea. If I make an archive and spend all of the time doing it, I would probably work out transfer problems and would never use limited transfer. Paying extra for every 5mb or something like that. The guy was talking about transfer. MCS was not an audio server, but a site with purchased service space or dedication. It was not a good idea to use it for multiple sites, but one audio source, which I guess is what the guy who ran MCS did. See where it got him, all that work, and shut down completely now. If one person visits the site, that even counts as transfer. There is a difference between transfer, blance, and storage Omar. There is no way MCS had 300gigs of space. Aside from streaming .ra .ram clips or whatever was going on, and removing the temporary real audio file when completed, the same process is repeated, even if the user comes back to listen again. If this were a serious site or good service hosting, there would not be a transfer limit. Servers do this to limit traffic obviously, and they are not meant for sites like MCS. The guy is right on when he said something like he would shut it down. I'm sure it did cost. Obviously it was not ran or managed properly so it was shut down. Or maybe he should have reduced his amount of files he was serving, not limit, but take older clips off after people downloaded them after repeating the process. Yes, that would do you in on transfer. I speak from experience because I work with organization and company servers. My advice for everyone here would be to go off and start another site with multiple sources. It would require more frequent service, but divide the transfers by three to five sources, and get a hosting service with unlimited transfers and about 500mb - 1,000mbs -more realistic or space, and your set. Otherwise, use P2P technology as it develops. There are plenty of resources out there. I would love to see another site like MCS. It's gunna take a lot of work and time, and I'm going to leave that up to someone else. Just let the good listeners know when your finished. Hang in there fans
Here is where sheepfuckers' multiple personality syndrome starts to really take hold. Dumbass keeps refering to himself as 'that guy' Pretty funny, but also sad. And the way he addresses me is pretty weak. I mean come one!....
There is no way MCS had 300gigs of content. Your wrong about that, and if they did, that was soo costly and a red flag for Premier. Not many sites use 300gigs, MCS didn't either.
