But the fact is, he's the same guy who said, "Hey everyone go hack the phone lines of American Idol" Considering he thinks it's great that people smashed the phone lines of American Idol, I hope he thinks it's equally great when people start sharing gigs of his work on Kaaza and other P2P systems. What bothers me the most about it, is that Phil is spearheading this and even makes a skit about it this last Friday - showing his support for crushing his fan sites that pay enormous hosting fees to FREELY distribute his work. This isn't the singer of Metalica. This is Phil Hendrie. The guy with supposed "Thick Skin" the guy who takes on any and every news story and turns it into a mockingly funny skit. It shows he's just another prostitute or whore on the market. He get's paid. KFI pays him. But he doesn't allow others to freely share his work. It's a blow to fan sites and shows the motivations of either Phil or his staff. What people don't realize is that this industry started and grew by free distribution of code, ideas and concepts. If Torvalds would have done this with Linux - it would have stagnated the industry. Phil is making bank off of other people without paying any cost. He simply wishes to control distribution for his own selfish reasons. He is a newcomer to this online industry and doesn't know or respect it's history. Again, if this was Martha Stewart, or Metalica cracking down it wouldn't matter. But for Phil to step up to this issue and say what he did Friday and to crack down on sites makes me mad. I pay the $6 a month... Guess what I'm gonna pull support. It won't hurt him. But I don't want to feel like I'm simply paying some online whore. --Previous Message--
