I have also noticed a lot of smoking women at race events I have been to.
Your observation of more women than men smoking in your area matches the statistics. According to a 2010 survey there is a 6 point female smoking gap in Pinellas County (M 16 F 22). The numbers are higher among young adults. The high elderly population in your area brings down the average for both genders, although 22% is well above the national female avrage these days. You are living in a female smoking hotspot.

: Hey Everyone,
:
: Every day at lunch I take the company bank
: deposit downtown before I actually start my
: lunch. I usually notice many people smoking
: in front of buildings and a few at local
: sidewalk cafe's.
:
: Today was a little (or actually a lot)
: different than usual as the Honda Grand Prix
: Indy Race is going on downtown. I was forced
: to walk from my company's bank to my bank
: because the only place I could park was in
: the first bank's garage. As I walked, I
: noticed a lot of race fans heading over to
: watch the race and it seemed like every
: third young female race fan had a cigarette
: in her hand. I even noticed as I passed by
: the sidewalk cafe's that almost every table
: that had a young lady sitting at it also had
: a pack of cigarettes out on the table.
:
: Apparently smoking and Indy car racing go
: together pretty well. I noticed that a lot
: of the girls who were smoking or sitting at
: the tables were with a young man as well,
: but it seemed that only about half as many
: of the men were smoking as the ladies.
:
: In our area we do have a lot of outdoor
: events, festivals and activities. The one
: thing that I have noticed is that there
: seems to be a higher ratio of smoking
: couples at these types of events than I
: would expect based on the current trends
: towards smoking bans and such.
