Burrells Wharf Residents Site

BWFL has developed the new Burrells Wharf Residents site and it is now available for access. It replaces the message boards on the BWFL Web Site and provides additional facilities for people who own or live at Burrells Wharf.

The existing BWFL Web Site will remain as the public face for Burrells Wharf Freeholds Limited and will be developed along the lines already suggested.

You will need to go to

http://www.burrells-wharf.com

and you will need to register with the new site by following the instructions on the front page.

The existing boards will remain open for replies to existing posts only for a couple of months but not for the creation of new topics.

The rules for posting remain as for the current boards. Please respect other people's points of view and no abuse.

The forum section now incorporates a general discussion section and also space for for/sale; services; Leisure Activities etc.

Other services include the ability to raise an issue and to see outstanding issues. We will also report when parcels have been delivered and there will be other services such as key authorisation introduced shortly.

This site is available for people who live in Burrells Wharf to develop as appropriate to the community. I Hope you enjoy using it and that you have lots of ideas on how to develop it in the future.

It looks good to me. On a related topic, I wondered what the timetable is for bringing the new BWFL web site into use. It’s currently accessible via the ‘New Site Prototype’ link, on the existing BWFL web site. The basic structure of that new site seems to be well established. It looks as though it needs a final effort to complete populating some of the pages and to bring it into play.

Yes everybody was very enthusiastic until I asked for help with generating content. Got some offers to review but.. I will have a think about what content should now be on this site in view of the New residents Site and then post up some requests.

Yes, I think the new Burrells Wharf Residents site makes sections such as the ‘Residents Info’ section, on the prototype site, unnecessary now. I’d be inclined to make the new BWFL site predominantly static, containing just public information that BWFL wants to present to the world. The real benefit of cutting over to the prototype site, IMHO, is that it is more visually appealing than the existing site, and therefore is a better promotional vehicle for BWFL and Burrells Wharf.

For what it's worth the prototype new site behaves rather oddly in Firefox: news, hlinethree and footer divs are appearing on the right hand side of the main menu tables.

I can't access this new site at work. I get the office internet filter saying.....

The site you requested is blocked due to a Malicious Web Reputation.

I think this is due to a filter installed by your company. It is not a fault of the new site, which so far has an impeccable reputation.

Shouldn’t a similar message be posted in the For Sale/Wanted and Local Services forums, to wind down that site and guide people towards the new site? And shouldn’t those forums also be reconfigured to prevent new posts?

Yes it should. Was trying to find out how to do it as it is quite different from the other board. Think I have cracked it now. Do you wnat to check it out?

Thanks Gareth. I’ve tested your changes and they work; regular users are now blocked from posting new topics to any of the forums on that site.

You probably need a ‘forum closed’ message on the ‘Plumbers, builders and other local services’ forum, just for consistency and completeness.

At the risk of creating even more work for you, I suggest that the three links to the old sites, on the BWFL site home page, are replaced with a single link to the new Burrells Wharf Residents site. That way, new residents who encounter the BWFL site will be able to easily find the new Burrells Wharf Residents site, without having to navigate via the old site(s).

By the way, the new site seems to be having a bit of a ‘Terminal 5’ moment at present, with error messages appearing about memory being exhausted.

Barney has obviously cured the problem that caused intermittent error messages to appear at the new web site on Sunday afternoon. I haven’t seen any recurrence of those error messages since then.
