It could be worthwhile requesting that Thames Water fit a water meter, even though the request will probably be denied. If Thames Water is unable to fit a water meter then you have the option of paying the Average Household Charge (£245 for 07/08). That may be more or less than you currently pay, using the rateable value based bills.
For 08/09, the Average Household Charge is being replaced by a tiered charge based on the number of bedrooms. Any properties of two bedrooms or less will enjoy an even lower charge than this year’s £245. If this represents a saving for you then the route to achieve it is to apply for a water meter. However, I’m not clear whether it makes sense to apply this month or wait until April or whether it doesn’t make any difference. You can read more about it at the link below.
