Posted by A PUNK on 9/5/2001, 10:28 am --Previous Message-- Sometimes, people don't let you walk away. I mean, come on, haven't you seen the Karate Kid? (I am talking about the original, not the entire trilogy.) Ralph Macchio was tormented by a bully until he had to fight. Life is sometimes that way. If you're going to learn how to fight, you might want to learn how to fight. We're men that's what we do. If you go to a college campus, you'll notice that "Self-defense" classes are offered to women. Their philosophy is the same as yours, so you might be more comfortable there. We are men. It is our duty to disable, then disfigure our opponent. It is the only real manly way to fight. Besides, I often like to enlist the help of someone who has done something I haven't. Jsut the other day, I listened to someone talk about skydiving. Then I went home and laid face down on my bed, and spread out my arms and legs, and made a sloppy whbbbb sound with my lips. Suffice it to say, I can now tell people I know how to skydive. Okay. I'm done.
: Dear A PUNK,
: What's the point? That I have no fighting
: experience? That's true. That it takes
: guts to engage when your being beaten to a
: bloody pulp? That's true. That I'm
: taking it slow to learn? That's true.
: That the only "deadly" technique
: I know is to jump on someone's neck while
: they are on the ground? That's true. I
: have never mis-represented myself
: concerning my abilities or the lack
: thereof. My strategy, if possible and
: unavoidlable, is to strike and run away.
: If I ever had to fight it would have to be
: unavoidable. Granted, preparation is key
: but I take it slow. I am a slow learner
: anyway. But my Sifu has screamed it into
: my brain that the classroom is not
: fighting reality. It is just preparation
: for it. Do I have to be beaten into a
: bloody pulp to understand this? No. Do I
: have to learn that after 2-3 swings in a
: real fight that I'll be already winded?
: No. I realize these things. I understand
: these realities. I need not be in war to
: understand what war is. I only need to
: train and speak with veterans of war. The
: smart person avoids war/fighting. I have
: a veteran in fighting teaching me what is
: real. This is all I need.
: But enough of that. I truly enjoy your
: comments. I am formally inviting you to
: the school so that we may talk and train.
: I have my Sifu's permission to invite you.
: Please come and train with us. I know I
: will learn from you.
: See ya!
:
:So you're training in a martial art to avoid conflict? Why not study needle point? It keeps you in the house and away from people who might hurt you. And, I hear, when applied appropriately, the needles can be used as weapons.
