If you want a true martial that is even more devasting, flashy, and impressive than Tae Kwon Do, then I suggest you take Capoeira. Not only does it improve your conditioning and flexibility, but it is the most effective art for close-quarter combat. It is street-tested as well as jungle-tested.
: Hi all. I am a new student to wing chun. I
: would like to use it to stay fit and
: limber. What are some exercises I can use
: to get really in shape? Also, my main
: complaint with wing chun is that it
: doesn't really seem to have instant
: effectiveness on the street, like tae kwon
: do (which I used to study). It seems like
: their are no high kicks, which is really
: important for suprising the opponent while
: impressing the onlookers at the same time.
: I think that if your style does not have
: flashy high kicks, you will be at a
: *serious* disadvantage when facing a tae
: kwon do practitioner. Also, does your
: school use uniforms? I think that they
: are important, especially because they
: look neat and breed unity in the school.
: I welcome any comments. -Andrew J.
