Yeah, I would say head gear/neck gear/eye wear, mouth guard, cup, shin guards, and maybe a light chest protector like a catcher would wear. Then I would say we would be good to go. That's a bit more than minimal, but it would really reduce chances of injury. I think it's important to leave the palm/arm alone. We need those to "feel"
: Hola,
: I remember the old school sparring.
: Chi-Sauing with Tony in the old school was
: quite eventful. He really tried to get the
: fighters mentality into many of us. I
: used to come home with bruises all over my
: body! Those that did not come in with cups
: had to tell his partner right off the bat
: or else his jewels would definitely get
: the shitty end of a good front toe kick or
: a nice arrow step in with a knee to the
: groin (not that it didn't hurt with the
: cup on). Eye protection was a must.
: I think we should definitely apply what we
: are learning from Fong, but we should also
: go back to the old school rough-em-up
: type training. Ya, it is nerve-racking at
: first, but with time I believe that we
: will be more confidant and knowledgeable
: fighters.
: Maybe we can implement minimal protection
: such as headgear, mouthpiece, thinly
: padded gloves to apply certain techniques,
: and sport cups, to help reduce injury.
: This type of equipment will not protect us
: from getting hurt, but physiological and
: mental changes will occur during these
: "controlled fights. I know... there
: are breaking moves, biting, eye gouging,
: etc. Equipment will prevent some of these
: things and most certainly, lets try not
: to break each others arms, legs, etc,
: during training. The only way we can train
: for that uneventful day is to train in the
: closest way possible to a real fight.
: Sure, we can go all out on each other,
: but Tony wont have any students left
: cause theyd all be in the hospital or
: dead.
: Sure minimal equipment will hinder or
: restrict some things, but I think it can
: also expand our knowledge about the art
: and most importantly ourselves. I this
: case, we can train aggressively, but with
: the intention as to not kill our Wing Chun
: Brother. We can learn what works, and what
: doesnt. Everyone fights differently and
: whatever works for someone might not work
: for someone else. We can do this whenever
: we want, or set up certain dates to do
: this behind closed doors. Remember, we do
: this only to propagate our art, our minds,
: and our fighting skills. Any comments?
: suggestions?
