
Posted by 02 If you ever study music theory, intervals are as fundamental in music as letters of the alphabet are to literature. That said, I'm sure there are a lot of pop (rock, etc.) musicians who have a great sense of musicality but don't know intervals. The value of this knowledge to you depends on how deeply you want to understand music.

First, G-B is four half steps, not half notes. Knowledge of intervals has a lot of value in music. For a guitar player, the half step and whole step is a fundamental part of going beyond the basic chords you learn as a beginner. Further, the intervals are what help you navigate the fretboard when you are playing lead guitar or trying to figure out a melody.
