intervals

Don't get the practical application of intervals. Take the G maj chord on the guitar. GBDGBG What can be said of this chord in terms of intervals. My guess is G-B is 4 half notes B-D is 3 half notes D-G is 5 half notes G-B is 4 half notes B-G is 8 half notes Does this knowledge have any practical usage? Thanks, Rocky
