Wow, you could not have found a more complicated notation. In order to fit more than what is allowed in the measure, he is basically changing the measure into fractions. For example, the first bracket has the 6, the numeral refers to the number of eighth notes involved. Therefore the next three written beats are affected. This is shown through how the bracket only covers the first three full beats. This is different for every bracket though. The second bracket the 3 represent quarter notes. The notation on the other side of the = sign represents what the bracketed notation is going to be counted as. So the three beats in the brackets actual represents a half note and a dotted eighth making room for the sixteenth note. This is actually a way to keep from using complicated time signatures and time markings. It would be best to write out where the syncopations line up between the voice and the tape part in order to keep the two parts together. This is only my theory, reply to let me know if this makes sense!!
