Just for an example, say you wanted to play a "C" note a bunch of times with your right hand. If you wanted to play it stacatto you could just use the same finger, but if you wanted it to be more connected you could either use the right hand fingers - 2 1 2 1 2 1 or 3 1 3 1 3 1 or even 3 1 2 1 3 1 2 1. Some way might have a better result than another, but sometimes when the difference in sound is so small, its hard to tell which way is best!
