Hi,
I have been having difficulty understanding how chords are used by composers and thus am lacking confidence when composing. I have bought a harmony book [Walter Piston] and organized info as aids for study based upon the content of that book. However, I just need peace of mind before I begin properly. If In learn Part Writing/Voice Leading how close will I be to proper composing? Further more, say that I learn counterpoint after, would that be sufficient? I understand that there are such topics as cadences, modulation, and many many more, but for understanding how composers use chords, would this be sufficient? Or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill? Thankyou for your time.
Hiroshi
