
Posted by yamex There's nothing weird about zero, it's the 'one' thing that's weird. If you begin from any point and don't leave it, you've gone zero distance. However, Medieval Europe did not have notation for zero, and I can see where they would think that two voices on the same pitch are playing as one, or unison, possibly reinforcing the idea of the relation of a pitch to itself being '1'.
