None of us is making this confusing; we have inherited the instruments as they are. If you decide to change the B flat clarinet to make it a C instrument simply by calling the old C a B flat, you'll run into more confusion than we already have. You'll have to transpose every part you play AND you'll have to reconfigure your brain for the new fingerings for each note (same fingerings/different notes). Even worse, many parts are composed with the B flat problems in mind, so a work that may be easy on a B flat clarinet might be brutally difficult on your new "C" clarinet. You might know this already by trying to play a part for clarinet in A on a B flat instrument.
