intervals !! ( why!!?) -- ( new member)

why intervals are that important , yeah i do believe its an amzaing ear training , and good to know the note pos ( on the guitar fretboard ) when ur new --- like me -- , but what about the theory side ?? , why we need to know the intervals ?? any body answer me plz
