
Posted by John I know that different instruments, due to their size/shape/make play different pitches than others. I don't understand how an Eb alto saxophone and a Bb trumpet can look at the same note (middle C) and play the "same" pitch! Maybe my ears are just wrong... According to theory, in order for these two instruments to match pitches, the Eb alto saxophone must play a G, and the Bb trumpet must play a C. Someone please explain transpositions to me before I go insane!

Hey, since they cut music theory at my high school I enrolled in this online course. I didn't understand the section regarding the different keys of different instruments AT ALL.
