2 sharps should suggest D major. But if you start from E and play up to E you just played the 2nd "mode" out of D Major, known as E dorian. I think the other posters are saying this too (maybe they are saying more in a technical way, over my head). Personally I like the sound of it and use it often (I play guitar). Minor quality but not too dark.
