Thanks -- that gives me something to think about. I find that in midi files, within a given track there will often be notes that occur simultaneously. So while I may have decided this track contains the melody, I'm still left with the problem of figuring out which notes in the track are the melody. I'm beginning to wonder if this is even possible!
