fux counterpoint

In Fux's "The Study of Counterpoint", I am confused by the clef notation. For instance, there will be an alto clef, and then a double bar, and then a treble clef. I don't know how do to read the notes that follow. Is it in alto or treble clef? This occurs throughout the book. Can someone explain this to me?
