THE MIND READER (1933), featuring the estimably hammy Warren William as a kind of prototype of overambitious mentalist Stan Carlisle, will now be joined by the Mexican variant of what we might call the NIGHTMARE ALLEY tale ("carny charlatanism"), EN LA PALMA DE TU MANO aka IN THE PALM OF yOUR HAND (1951), with the sometimes hammy Arturo de Cordova pitted against perhaps the most fascinating of the Mexican divas, Leticia Palma.
That happens on Saturday, March 30, leading up to the nitrate print presentation of NIGHTMARE ALLEY, the one with Tyrone Power.
So FNF and the American Cinematheque apparently realized they really needed to give extra value to that Saturday matinee--which, though it slightly pains us to admit it, is a very good idea! :-)
We will see how much of this program continues as the rest of the FNF festival calendar plays out in '24.
