Still available on YouTube despite recently being released in the Kino noir series (Volume XV) that has been bringing a lot of 50s Universal titles into the home video marketplace at last.
Director Harry Keller had a bit of a "noir run" at Universal in the late 50s after beginning as an editor, with some interesting titles in that portion of his resumé just before he made the transition to director at Republic (SPECTER OF THE ROSE, MOONRISE).
Screenwriter Dan Ullman also had an interesting and varied career, with a lot of emphasis on westerns but with several other intriguing noirs including THE CASE AGAINST BROOKLYN (1958, the year after MAN AFRAID). In the 60s he transitioned to television, where he was extremely prolific until his death in 1979. Amongst his credits are nine episodes of THE FUGITIVE, including several of the series' most unusual episodes, particularly "The 2130", where Gerard is aided by a college professor (Melvyn Douglas) who is tracking Richard Kimble with what used to be called a mainframe computer.
