An IMDB reviewer notes the similarity of premise and storylines to the radio series Pat Novak for Hire, in particular the trope of the police wanting to pin an unexplained murder on our hapless PI. Like many detectives of the era, including Mike Shayne, O’Brien gets conked on the head and roughed up a lot. His drunken philosopher friend, played by Edward Brophy, adds some comic relief.
