16 of the 27 films in the series hail from 1947, noir's (arguable) annus mirabilis, and it now appears that DC will be the festival location that carries the heft that formerly was the provenance of the SF festival during its tenure at the now-embattled Castro Theater. (Not to discount the ambitious schedules for the third and fourth installments of the original NC SF series, held at the Balboa and at the Palace of Fine Arts way back in 2005/2006: these are the only two FNF series whose total number of films exceed the 2022 NC DC lineup.)
A festival pass permitting attendees to see all 27 films will set you back $150; it's being touted as a deep bargain from the "value" placed on the series ($420, which presumes that someone would be sufficiently clueless to purchase 27 individual tickets).
The schedule at the AFI Silver involves multiple repeat screenings, which is way too overwrought to display here; the film list has been organized by the AFI Silver minions in alphabetical order, and we display it below in that format as well.
Films from 1947 are shown in bold type. Asterisks and daggers represent the films being screened during the "residencies" of Eddie Muller (*) and Foster Hirsch (†) respectively. As you'll see, it's an "all-American" lineup.
Nice to see BORN TO KILL in among the titles. Sadly, however, the programmers did not seize the opportunity to slam together what might be one of the strangest double bills of all time: THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI and SECRET BEYOND THE DOOR. (Of course, there are no double bills in this series--it's all separate admission.)
