FALLING DOWN is one of those "actor's showcase" films, and it might be of some use to try to trace those as a sub-species: while there are clearly more of them in neo-noir than in classic noir (the star was much less likely to also be the producer of the film in those days: Burt Lancaster in SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS is a notable exception), it would be useful to see just how many of these there really are, and whether the percentage of such films is rising over time.
