After reading this, I think I will "double down" on my surprised pleasure that Mr. Muller (Eddie, not Bob--Eddie has enough "e's" in his name already...) is returning to a stance which restores "social outcry" noirs to their deserved place--which is in a theatre, in front of audiences who need to absorb their messages right now. Now that this has occurred, I can once again become a choir boy and spread my wings throughout the world of noir--as if 500+ lost/hidden French noirs and 75 of them screened in the USA for the first time in half a century wasn't enough evidence of a "wider net." Your comment gave me a good laugh--thanks much!
After reading your interpretation of current events, I think I will simply agree to disagree. Time will tell who is closer to what is an ever-more elusive "truth." I'll take my chances, however.
As for the board and neutrality, I am tempted to tear a page from Trump and toss out all the rules. But that would look bad to those folks out there "in the dark" (as Norma Desmond called them), wouldn't it? I think that what will happen is that we will back away from this latest upsurge in brinksmanship, retire to neutral corners, slip off the gloves, have our trainer work over our fever blisters, and remind ourselves, like poor hounded John Garfield, that "everybody dies"--even guys named "Donald."
Oops, did I just cross the line again? Ah, well...as Bugs Bunny says when he graphically torments Daffy Duck: "ain't I a stinkah??" :-)
