(1) It seems to me that mob reactions that prevent speech at universities is bad, very bad. This mob behavior is part of this resistance, a bad part. It is like that shown in several of the noir classics, which again I say are good movies.
(2) The Russia-gate conspiracy to bring down Trump is extraordinary, involving as it does both CIA and FBI figures. This too is a part of this resistance, and it too is bad.
(3) The Resistance Party is another aspect, one that I raised in my initial post. If that's representative of resistance to Trump, let's understand that it's progressive, left-wing in nature, calling for more government control in matters like health and education. This forum is no place for arguing such matters. I have seen here in the recent past in short remarks by a few contributors their sympathies toward such causes. I think they're out of line and called for a response from those of us who believe that the progressive agenda is completely wrong.
I have offered an alternative in one post, which is voluntary programs. You can have your Medicare. I'm not about to make you not have it. I do not believe in forcing you into anything, except jail if you commit a genuine crime. It's certainly feasible to arrange a voluntary program where you sign up for Medicare and have the deductions made for it and attempt to operate it form those sources of finance and only those sources. You could agree to the full panoply of regulations that you might want. You could have single-payer tomorrow if that's your preference. You do not need a government to create such a system. There's no justification for forcing others into your project, however.
I'd like to hear an acknowledgement from progressives, right-wingers, fascists, communists, social democrats, and democratic socialists that the voluntary route is a principle that's worthy and consistent with freedom and private property rights. None ever acknowledge this. They're all too busy dreaming up reasons for and working for imposing their own agendas on everyone else. I'm not holding my breath while I wait for anyone with these politics to place freedom and private property rights at the top of their principles.
For completeness, I could list a few of the positions that Trump holds that are bad too, like tariffs, immigration, Iran, Syria. Being wary of what resistance entails doesn't mean I favor his politics.
On the other hand, let us join in welcoming the peace initiative coming out of Korea and pray that Trump follows through on this and does not torpedo it. What part did he play in that negotiation and outcome? I don't know. It must be some part. Moon started it up last July and deserves a lot of credit as does Kim. If Trump sees this one thing through, that will count for something, won't it? You and others cannot resist a success on that matter, if it happens, can you?
