We may well screen this in December as part of a special "Noir Noel" evening.
Christian-Jaque cemented his status as a top-flight director with this one, following it with three equally compelling and highly diverse films during the Occupation: CARMEN (1942), VOYAGE SANS ESPOIR (1943), and SORTILEGES (released in 1945, but filmed the previous year).
