In the meantime, those on the East Coast reading the posts here should take note of a revival of the play in Bennington, VT starting tomorrow night. Here's a preview review:
"BENNINGTON – Lovers of black-and-white ’30s film noir, or those who appreciate” skillfully written mystery plays such as “Deathtrap,” or fans of sleazy characters with one foot in the underworld, should run to Oldcastle Theatre to see Theresa Rebeck’s flirting-with-disaster thriller “Mauritius,” opening Friday, July 21 at Oldcastle Theatre. The play runs through Aug. 6.
Stamp collecting is far more risky than one might think. After their mother’s death, two estranged half-sisters discover a book of stamps that may include the crown jewel for collectors. One sister tries to collect on the windfall, while the other resists for sentimental reasons. In this gripping tale, a seemingly simple sale becomes dangerous when three seedy, high-stakes collectors enter the sister’s world, willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.
Variety said of the play: “The five characters in ‘Mauritius’ pair up and face off in shifting configurations, the emotionally fraught edges of their twisty encounters made all the more intriguing by the fact that items as apparently as innocuous as postage stamps fuel the friction.”"
