I think Bob had been really suffering over the past few years, and was doing everything he could to be a trouper (sp.?). It was clear in his last go-round that he'd lost some mental sharpness, which is a sad thing to see, particularly for someone who'd made it look ridiculously easy for so many years.
Thanks to him for his stalwart presence and service to film lovers--may he rest in peace.
While TCM will go on, and they have good folks to keep things going, it's truly the end of an era. Bob was unique, and his infinite charm has been a major reason that the network was so successful. It will be interesting to see how things shake out now. No chance that it will be YOU coming to us in the evenings, now, Jay? We know you have the knowledge to be a great host!!
