Don, I remember this film from its original Los Angeles run during my art-house film going days(which also coincided with my college years.) I saw it twice on successive week-ends, once with a male friend, and the other with a young woman.
I was pretty naive back then, and I didn't fully appreciate it. But it seemed very dark, both as to story and cinematically, which, of course, it was. The trailer now at YouTube seems much brighter than I remember the film being all those years ago. Some years ago I looked for the film, and all I could find was the IMDb listing. I'll look for a DVD, now. Thanks for this post and link.
From thirty feet away she looked like a lot of class. From ten feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from thirty feet away.
