I watched Stampede last night and I'll vouch for the above comment. The film has a good many other night scenes in which lighting is noir. The story leans in that direction too.
One must always beware of Warner Archive prints, of which this is one. It's okay, but WB typically doesn't remaster prints or clean them up.
"The Walking Hills" is on youtube in a 78 minute version (the right running time) taped from the western channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnaZFApaaTs The resolution is low. It's not a sharp print, but it's better than nothing. This is western-noir.
Other versions on youtube are not good.
