Re: Cette nuit-la... (1958)
I love Ronet in Elevator to the Gallows, released the same year as this film. He was a French version of an Arrow-collar guy, but with a lot going on below the surface; I think he was often cast for his ability to suggest that. He had studied philosophy and is said to have been passionate about literature, art, and music, and to have exhibited his paintings with Jean Dubuffet (which is heady company). He directed a film of Herman Melville's Bartleby in 1976, just six years after a British film of the same story; it would be fascinating to compare those two versions.
