Agreed on all points. I thought the same thing, that Night of the Living Dead has something in common with the roughie ethos, as well as with gore films like Blood Feast. Of course, the seminal Herschell Gordon Lewis worked both those fronts, and even though George Romero is about a hundred times the director that Lewis is, still, he owes him something.
