While watching the World Series last night (which is why I'm responding a day late), I switched channels during a seemingly interminable run of commercials to check on what TCM was broadcasting. Lo and behold, it was a Hitchcock noir, Vertigo. Jimmy Stewart was leading a ravishingly beautiful Kim Novak up the steps of a bell tower, having doped out what a chump she'd made of him. I almost bagged the rest of the game to watch, even though I've got a copy of the film and can watch anytime. Reason prevailed and I returned to the game, only to check back again during another interruption. This time it was North by Northwest, not a noir but one of Hitchcock's finest. Again I dragged myself away but it made me think of a boarder's assertion several months ago that Hitchcock's movies are a genre unto themselves and can't be considered noir. I disagree and have always considered Psycho to be noir. Don, you've found an original and imaginative way to present it as the Noir of the Week. Your noir-metrics analysis rings true and I congratulate you on your presentation of it.
