Don, that's a great and incisive write-up for what I've always considered a bona-fide noir film. I don't feel that Hitchcock receives enough credit for being a genuine contributor to this style of film, given his status as the master of suspense and virtually the proprietor of his own brand of film--the "Hitchcock film." But considering such films as SHADOW OF A DOUBT, NOTORIOUS, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN and PSYCHO, I think it's fair to say that the man was also a master noir stylist. Great analysis, Don!
